GRAVEL
Gravel is composed of rock fragments in various sizes. As a natural byproduct of aggregate extraction and sorting, gravel is plentiful and useful in a multitude of construction applications.
Sizing for gravel ranges widely and is extracted specifically for its intended use. Gravel’s lack of water retention is one of the factors that makes it a staple in a variety landscaping projects, especially in locations with heavy rain and snowfall.
GRAVEL Applications
Gravel’s versatility has become an integral part of past and modern infrastructure. Gravel is predominantly used to pave roads and pathways when mixed with asphalt or construction fill.
As a surface material it can also extend its use to dog runs, playgrounds and gardens. Gravel is great for traction in all weather and mitigates the appearance of weeds and plant overgrowth. Though not common in Saskatchewan, gravel is also used as a surface for flat roofs.
Gravel is often perceived to only be used on roads. However, gravel is utilized as a structural foundation in several trades and branches of the construction industry. For example, gravel is one of the main components for graded sewer and watermain backfills.

GRAVEL EXTRACTION
Extracting gravel can be done in two ways. One is the process of excavating an aggregate pit, as gravel is a naturally occurring byproduct. The other method is to grind and sort through viable rocks and minerals to produce a specific type or grade of gravel.
As with all our products, quality is of the utmost importance. All our excavation sites are tested before, during and after the dig to maintain the quality and precision we pride ourselves on.

Road Gravel
Applications: Road Construction
Byproduct: Aggregate extraction
There are several different types of road gravel available, all of which are different combinations of stone, sand, and fines. Gravel is a byproduct of aggregate extraction, and depending on the gravel type, can be used in road construction and is a cheaper alternative than asphalt.

Type 109 Road Gravel
Applications: Type 109 road gravel can be used for surfaces in dog runs, playgrounds, and gardens.
Byproduct: Aggregate extraction
Type 109 gravel is a gravel variant, which is a byproduct of aggregate extraction. This type of gravel can be used as a surface material in dog runs, playgrounds, and gardens. It provides great all weather traction and mitigates vegetation overgrowth. Although not popular in Saskatchewan, it is sometimes used in flat roofs.

Pit Run Gravel
Applications: Pit run gravel can be used as a base for roads, driveways, swimming pools, balcktops, and retaining walls.
Byproduct: Natural/ Unmanufactured
This type of gravel is unmanufactured, as it is extracted directly from a bank. It contains some larger rocks in the 12” range, however the most common size is approximately 6” or less. It is used for a base for roads and driveways and should be placed in layers 12″ thick or more. Pit run gravel must be leveled by a machine. Additional uses for pit run gravel are under blacktop paving, swimming pools, and retaining walls.
